When her leaves fell, summer dipped behind her shade and asked me politely to leave as she changed into fall. Grudgingly, I departed from the light in which I learned who I was and whom I loved. Cast out into the shadows, I didn't know my way at all. I found the shore, but I don't know which way to run-- into the sea, or back toward land? The changing tides and time, I can't outrun. My love was written in the sand.
